Thrifty Katy ("we," "us" — really just Katy Garvey and this website, thriftykaty.com) respects your privacy. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what we do with it.
What we collect
Your email address — only if you sign up for The Thrifty Five newsletter. That's the only personal information this site asks for. We don't require accounts, we don't run comment forms, and we don't buy or scrape data about you.
Basic technical logs — like most websites, our server and Cloudflare (our security/delivery provider) automatically record standard technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested. We use this only to keep the site running, fast, and secure.
How we use your email
- To send you the weekly Thrifty Five newsletter and a one-time welcome email.
- That's it. We do not sell, rent, or trade your email address to anyone, ever.
Every email we send includes a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also just reply "unsubscribe" and a human (Katy) will remove you. Once you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you.
Who touches your data
We use a small number of service providers to run the site: Twilio SendGrid delivers our emails, Cloudflare provides security and content delivery, Google Analytics provides aggregate visitor statistics, and Hostinger hosts our server. Your email address is stored on our own server and passes through SendGrid solely to deliver the newsletter. These providers process data on our behalf and under their own privacy commitments.
Cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand which posts people enjoy and how folks find the site. It sets cookies to tell repeat visitors from new ones and shares usage data with Google; we only ever look at it in aggregate (page views, traffic sources), never to identify you. You can opt out with Google's opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser — the site works fine either way. Cloudflare may also set strictly-necessary cookies for security. If we ever add advertising cookies, we'll update this policy first.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site may be affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy something through them — at no extra cost to you. We mark this in our site footer and only recommend things we'd buy twice. Clicking an affiliate link takes you to a third-party site (like Amazon) governed by its own privacy policy.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe at any time, and you can email us to ask what information we hold about you or to have it deleted — we'll do it. Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK or California), you may have formal legal rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data; we honor such requests from everyone regardless of location.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we'll remove the address.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Meaningful changes (like adding analytics or ads) will also get a mention in the newsletter.
